Jakub Klimiuk

Jakub Klimiuk is a Polish jazz guitarist and composer based in London.

Throughout the years, he has recorded and shared the stage with the likes of Jonas Kullhammar, Mark Lockheart, John Horler, Dave O’Higgins and Krystyna Stańko, working with both UK-based and international projects. He has played at several European festivals, including the Rhodes & South Aegean International Jazz Festival and Sopot Molo Jazz Festival, as well as concert halls such as the Polish Baltic F. Chopin Philharmonic.

Jakub is an adventurous composer focused on experimenting with musical forms and implementing compositional techniques derived from contemporary classical music into jazz. His original compositions are a unique combination of arranged structures often based on counterpoints and fully improvised sections. He mentions the current New York scene (Mark Turner, Jonathan Kreisberg, Aaron Parks) and Scandinavian musicians like Petter Eldh or Jakob Bro as his main influences.

After spending his formative years in Gdańsk, Poland, cutting his teeth as a side-man working with prominent Polish musicians, Jakub has moved to the UK to pursue his career as a band leader. Having received a Bachelor’s Degree with distinction in Jazz Guitar Performance at The Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music, he continued his educational journey at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he honed his craft with Phil Robson, Colin Oxley and Ivo Neame, ultimately graduating with a 1st class degree in 2023.

Jakub made his first appearance on the British jazz scene at the EFG London Jazz Festival, performing music from his quintet’s EP “Reluctance”. He has performed in jazz clubs across the UK including Bristol, Brighton, Birmingham and St Ives, in addition to major jazz venues in London such as PizzaExpress Live and the Vortex.

He is currently one of the curators of the Vortex Jazz Clubs’          ”Whirlpool” monthly concert series, described by the London Jazz News as ”nothing short of astonishing” and ”jaw-dropping quality”, which showcases original music of upcoming artists.
