Jakub Klimiuk Quintet is a London-based ensemble

that fuses elements of modern jazz inspired by the New York scene with influences drawn from the Scandinavian improvised music scene. The resultant repertoire is a thrilling combination of scripted forms and improvised sections, constantly entwining melodic compositions and experimental sonic escapades.

“(un)balanced” (2024), the quintet's first LP, tells the story of seeking balance in today's reality, manoeuvring through the overwhelming deluge of information and striving to discover inspiration in everyday routine. Jakub's writing reflects the titular state between order and chaos. The compositions blend harmony with disorder, dissonance with consonance, and free improvisation with structured forms. The pieces are linked by a series of solo and duet improvised studies, which bring the listener closer to the personal experiences and styles of each member of the band.

On two tracks, the quintet is joined by the brilliant saxophonist Mark Lockheart, who contributes his exceptional sound, wealth of experience, and empathetic approach

The band's debut EP ”Reluctance”, released in 2022, is a reflection on the uncertainty of current times, a way to express intertwining feelings of hope and skepticism. The album takes the listener on a journey through different sound worlds, spanning from jazz deeply grounded in the genre's tradition to elements of contemporary classical music.

Since the EP’s launch, the band has firmly rooted itself in the UK jazz scene, performing at the EFG London Jazz Festival and venues like The Vortex, PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho, and the 606 Club
